What is the history of the Declaration?

Preparation to the Declaration started in October 2005 when European Commissioner for Culture Ján Figel' proposed to declare 2008 the "Year of intercultural dialogue". Actions undertaken since then include

  1. a round table with European Commissioner for Culture Ján Figel' in Brussels on 3 May 2006
  2. the conceptualization of actions and ideas responding to the EU Call for ideas
  3. the implementation of a preliminary research on best practices and the drafting and fine-tuning of the Declaration in close cooperation with EFA members.
  4. the finalization of the Declaration in a second round table with European Commissioner for Culture on 6 December 2007
